Check-in

Get to know your students to better inform your lessons and activities.

Feedback and Comments

“I wanted to know how my students were, on a technological level and on an emotional level. I wanted to know their state of being before I gave them the requirements with finality. I found out that many students have trouble balancing their household commitments with their schoolwork, so that helped me reach out and ask if they wanted me to put them in touch with the school counselor. I also found out the hours when they were most productive (after lunch and after dinner) which helped me figure out my deadlines.”

Understands the learnerThe check-in considers the technological factors affecting the learner’s motivation, skills and ability to learn successfully. Then, throughout the semester, the check-in serves as an avenue to continually understand the learners (what they enjoy, what they might be confused with, etc.)
Nurtures student well-beingThe check-in allows the students to be honest with the professor with regards to their learning contexts (e.g., technological issues which might be holding them back).
Thoughtfully doneThe form must have well-formulated questions so that the professor can get a clear picture of the students’ access to technology.

Systematically reviews & improves the learning experienceBy using this kind of check-in throughout the semester, students can give and receive feedback, and so the course is continually improved.
